Botox & Fillers Q & A

What are Botox®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®?

Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are all purified forms of botulinum toxin that are used to eliminate specific facial wrinkles. They work they same way — they block the nerves that trigger muscle contraction — but they’re each a slightly different formula of botulinum. Your doctor at Glow Health LLC Institute chooses the one that’s best for your skin and cosmetic needs.

What types of wrinkles are treated by Botox?

Your face develops more than one type of wrinkle. Some wrinkles occur with natural changes in your skin, such as a drop in collagen production, thinning skin, and dehydration. Then you have another set of wrinkles, called dynamic wrinkles, that develop from muscle movements that are frequently repeated every time you make certain facial expressions.

Since injections of Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport temporarily stop muscle contractions, they eliminate or significantly diminish dynamic wrinkles, which include frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead furrows.

After a Botox injection, you’ll see results in 1-2 days, while Dysport results appear in 2-3 days. Both of these injectables last up to four months.* Xeomin takes up to 30 days to produce maximum results, then the typical duration is up to three months.*

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are another type of injectable treatment that smooths away wrinkles, but they work differently than botulinum products. Dermal fillers are injected under the wrinkle, where they plump up the skin and smooth away the wrinkle. Several types of dermal fillers are available at the Med Spa, including Juvéderm® and Radiesse®.

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a family of dermal fillers. The different Juvéderm products all contain hyaluronic acid, but each one is formulated with a different density to treat a specific cosmetic problem.

Juvéderm Vollure™ XC diminishes the appearance of moderate-to-severe wrinkles around your mouth and nose, while Juvéderm Volbella® XC is designed to augment your lips and treat small lines around your lips. Juvéderm Voluma® XC adds lift and volume and contours your cheeks. Depending on the product you use, your results last 1-2 years.*

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse contains tiny spheres of calcium suspended in a gel. When this dermal filler is injected, the calcium microspheres immediately add volume, plus they stimulate collagen production.

Although your body gradually absorbs the calcium, the collagen-rich tissues remain, providing results that last about a year.* Radiesse is designed to treat wrinkles around your mouth and add volume to your cheeks.
