Laser Hair Removal Q & A

How do lasers safely remove hair?

Lasers safely eliminate unwanted hair by using a wavelength that’s only absorbed by the pigments in the hair follicle. When the laser is activated, the light energy travels down the hair shaft and into the follicle without harming your skin. The laser heats and destroys the follicle, so it won’t grow new hair.

Laser hair removal is safe for most parts of your body. You can use it to treat sensitive areas, such as your face, underarms, and bikini line, as well as large areas like your legs and back.

What type of laser is used for hair removal?

The team at Glow Health LLC Institute use an Alexandrite laser, which has a wavelength that’s perfect for hair removal. The Alexandrite also emits a light beam that’s long enough to reach the follicles, and it works for fine, thin hairs and is safe for all skin types.

Why do I need multiple laser hair removal treatments?

Laser energy can only destroy a follicle when it’s actively growing hair. Unfortunately, every follicle goes through a three-stage cycle. After years in a growth stage, the follicle goes through a short transitional stage, then enters a dormant stage when it stops growing hair. During the dormant phase, the existing hair falls out. A new hair develops when the follicle cycles back to a growth stage.

Every day, about 10-15% of your hair follicles are dormant and each one re-enters its next growth cycle in its own timing. To catch all the follicles during a growth phase, you’ll need 2-6 treatments spaced about 4-16 weeks apart, depending on the area being treated.

What should I expect during laser hair removal?

The length of your laser hair removal session depends on the area that’s being treated. Your procedure may take a few minutes for an upper lip or an hour for a large area or to treat several body areas.

When your treatment is over, you may have some skin redness and swelling, but these side effects should only last a few hours. You don’t need to take any downtime. However, it’s important to avoid sun exposure and carefully protect your skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen for about six weeks after each session.

What laser technology is available at the Med Spa?

As experts in the most advanced laser treatments, the team at Glow Health LLC Institute uses several types of lasers at the Med Spa, including:

  • Intense pulsed light (IPL) laser for treating skin pigmentation problems
  • Fraxel® laser for fractionated, nonablative skin resurfacing
  • Viora multi-technology radiofrequency platform for skin tightening, body contouring, and cellulite treatment

No matter what cosmetic problems you face, you’ll find solutions at the Med Spa.

How does the Viora system contour my body and diminish cellulite?

The Viora V-FORM handpiece uses suction and radiofrequency energy to simultaneously reduce fat, boost collagen, tighten skin, and increase blood and lymph circulation. The combination of melting away problem fat and tightening your skin significantly reduces the appearance of cellulite.
