Laser Vein Treatment Q & A

What laser technology is available at the Med Spa?

As experts in the most advanced laser treatments, the team at Northeast Laser Vein Institute uses several types of lasers at the Med Spa, including:

  • Intense pulsed light (IPL) laser for treating skin pigmentation problems
  • Fraxel® laser for fractionated, nonablative skin resurfacing
  • Viora multi-technology radiofrequency platform for skin tightening, body contouring, and cellulite treatment

No matter what cosmetic problems you face, you’ll find solutions at the Med Spa.

What cosmetic conditions benefit from an IPL photofacial?

IPL lasers eliminate or diminish several skin pigmentation concerns, including:

  • Sun spots and age spots
  • Facial redness and rosacea
  • Broken blood vessels, like spider veins
  • Acne and acne scars
  • Large pores

The IPL system uses wavelengths that target and break down red and brown pigments while leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed.

How does the Fraxel laser resurface my skin?

The Fraxel laser resurfaces your skin by breaking a single laser into many tiny beams of light. As a result, microscopic columns penetrate your skin while leaving the surrounding skin untouched.

The treated areas increase collagen production while the healthy tissues speed up healing. As new skin grows in, it’s stronger and tighter, which diminishes wrinkles, scarring, and skin discolorations.

How does the Viora system contour my body and diminish cellulite?

The Viora V-FORM handpiece uses suction and radiofrequency energy to simultaneously reduce fat, boost collagen, tighten skin, and increase blood and lymph circulation. The combination of melting away problem fat and tightening your skin significantly reduces the appearance of cellulite.

How do lasers safely remove veins?

Lasers can safely eliminate spider, reticular, and varicose veins by taking advantage of different wavelengths. When lasers are set at specific wavelengths, the laser’s energy is only absorbed by the red and blue pigments in veins.

When your doctor at Northeast Laser Vein Institute activates the laser, it directly heats the targeted vein without harming the surrounding skin and other tissues. The heat destroys the vein and the waste is gradually removed by your body, permanently eliminating the vein.

What types of laser vein treatments are available?

When it comes to getting rid of your unsightly veins, there are two laser options:

Noninvasive laser treatment

The team at Northeast Laser Vein Institute uses two types of noninvasive lasers to treat unwanted veins: an Alexandrite laser and an Nd:YAG laser. These two lasers remove veins without harming your skin, and they provide a range of pulse and wavelength options to accommodate different vein sizes.

Minimally invasive endovenous laser ablation (EVLA)

During EVLA, your doctor uses a small incision and ultrasound guidance to thread a small laser fiber through your veins to the spider or varicose veins. As the laser goes through the targeted vein, pulses of energy are emitted that damage the tissues and close the vein. Over time, the treated vein completely disappears.

What should I expect during laser vein treatment?

When you undergo noninvasive vein treatment, your session takes 5-30 minutes, depending on the number of veins being eliminated. Laser treatment administered through your skin may produce tingling or snapping sensations that feel like a rubber band, but most patients tolerate the procedure well.

With a noninvasive laser treatment, it may take a few weeks for all the treated veins to be cleared away, depending on the size of the veins. However, you won’t need to take any downtime.

EVLA is performed using a local anesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel the laser treatment. This procedure may take 45-60 minutes, but it’s performed in the comfort of the offices. After an EVLA procedure, you wear compression stockings for a short time, and you can get back to your usual activities the next day.
